Exploring what our shared American history can teach us about today's issues

For more than three decades, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE’s documentary films have been bringing to life the monumental characters and epic stories that have shaped our culture. Last summer, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE came under the new leadership of Executive Producer Cameo George. Cameo brings a contemporary approach to multiplatform storytelling, connecting key moments of America’s history to today’s most compelling issues.

Experience Cameo’s fresh vision in “American Oz,” a new film that explores the life of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” creator L. Frank Baum. Baum was not only a writer of incredible imagination, but also a visionary far ahead of his time on issues of gender equality. “American Oz” premieres Monday, April 19, 2021 on PBS’s AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.

Still ahead in 2021 are films about Billy Graham, one of the 20th century’s most significant Christian leaders; Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court justice; and William Randolph Hearst, the legendary media mogul.
